Common Misconceptions and Mistakes with Retaining Wall Analysis Design
- Chris Haberfield (BSc, BE(Hons), PhD, FIEAust, CPEng, RPEQ)
- Principal, Golder Associates
This talk will present a warts and all look at retaining wall design and analysis.
Through a series of case studies and examples it will present common misconceptions made by both structural and geotechnical engineers relating to soil behaviour and the impact of these misconceptions on retaining wall design and performance, the influence of water and what to do about it, and the impacts of poor construction. The emphasis of the talk will be on low height retaining walls up to about 6m in height, but will include examples of walls of up to 30m in height.
Chris Haberfield is a Principal with Golder Associates, Australia's leading geotechnical engineering consultancy.
