Special Concrete – Specifying Concrete Tests
- Mr. W.A. (Tony) Gladman
AS 1379 Specification and Supply of Concrete in Section 1.6.4 Special-Class Concrete covers concrete other than normal class concrete.
A summary of some of what are considered special parameters is contained in Appendix B of AS 1379. This summary is by no means exhaustive, for example, requirements such as absorption, sorptivity and chloride diffusion are not mentioned.
No reference is made to the time required to undertake additional testing and the costs involved, particularly if local raw materials are not suitable.
The need to consider these aspects will be discussed.
